A combination of on line training and tutor led support that introduces thetopic of six sigma, and explains how this powerful system can be used toidentify im- provement opportunities, solve business problems and drive major improve- ments in company performance.The course gives a general introduction to the concepts of six-sigma, andexplains how this powerful system can be used to address the challengesmodern businesses face. For companies interested in implementing sixsigma, the course can be supplemented with classroom based planning sessions to help plan the implementation.

Target Users

The course is for anyone who needs an introduction to six sigma, either to evaluate the six sigma system prior to starting a programme, or to gain an overview of six sigma as part of an existing implementation.

Learning Objectives

  • To explain why six sigma is necessary in the modern automotive industry.
  • To clarify what the six sigma system is, and explain why it is different to other quality initiatives.
  • To examine the dMAIC approach to six sigma improvement and evaluate a case study using the approach.
  • To explain how to implement six sigma within an organisation.

Structure

The course is structured into five modules, each concluded by a test of under- standing. Tutor support is available via e-mail, with chat sessions organised. Topics covered in each module are as follows:

  2. The history of Six Sigma and how it has evolved into a total business improvement system, and the basic concepts of Six Sigma

  4. The DMAIC process, and how it works
  5. Implementing six sigma, an executive guide
  6. Appendix: Design Of Experiments (DOE)
